man is not made for defeat,a man can be destroyed but he can not be defeated. gently closing the book "the old man and the sea",i can't help thinking . in real life, encountering difficulty is unavoidable, the most important is to confront and have perseverance so that we can learn from failure.
《飘》的英文读后感篇2
the book was written by emily bronte, it published in 1847.but at that time, it seemed to hold little promise, selling very poorly and receiving only a few mixed reviews. i found this in our school library, i chose this book because the titleattracted me. the book is structured around two parallel love stories, the first half of the novel centering on the love between catherine and heathcliff, while theledramatic second half features the developing love between young catherine and hareton. in contrast to the first, the latter tale ends happily, restoring peace and order to wuthering heights and thrushcrogrange. in the story, the two houses, wuthering heights and thrushcrogrange, represent opposing worlds and values.
i spent twenty days reading this book. after reading this book, i felt for heathcliff at first. heathcliff begins his life as a homeleorphan on the streets of liverpool, and then he tyrannized by hindley earnshaw. but he becomes a villain when he acquires power and returns to wuthering heights with money and the trappings of agentleman. his malevolence proves so great and long-lasting. as he himself points out, his abuse of isabella-his wife is purely sadistic, as he amuses himself by seeing how much abuse she can take and still come cringing back for more.
catherine represents wild nature, in both her high, lively spirits and her occasional cruelty. she loves heathcliff so intensely that she claims they are the same person. however, her actions are driven in part by her social ambitions, which initially areawakened during her first stay at the lintons, and which eventually compel her to marry edgar. catherine is free-spirited, beautiful, spoiled, and often arrogant, sheis given to fits of temper, and she is torn between her both of the men who loveher. the location of her coffin symbolizes the conflict that tears apart her short life. she is buried in a corner of the kirkyard. in contrast to catherine, isabella linton-catherine’s sister-in-law represents culture and civilization, both in her refinement and in her weakness. ultimately, she ruins her life by falling in love with heathcliff. he never returns her feelings and treats her as a meretool in his quest for revenge on the linton family.
just as isabella linton serves as catherine’s foil, edgar linton serves as heathcliff’s. edgar grows into a tender, constant, but cowardly man. he is almost the ideal gentleman. however, this full assortment of gentlemanly characteristics, along with his civilized virtues, proves uselein edgar’s clashes with his foil. he sees his wife obviously in love with another man but unable to do anything to rectify thesituation. heathcliff, who gains power over his wife, sister , and daughter.
the whole story make people’s mood heavy. fortunately, the end is happy.
the author emily bronte lived an eccentric, closely guarded life. she was born in 1818, two years after charlotte-the author of jane eyre and a year and a half before her sister anne, who also became an author. her father worked as a church rector, and her aunt, who raised the bronte children after their mother died, was deeply religious. emily bronte did not take to her aunt’s christian fervor, thecharacter of joseph, a caricature of an evangelical, may have been inspired by her aunt’s religiosity. the brontes lived in haworth, a yorkshire village in the midst of the moors. these wild, desolate expanses-later the setting of wuthering heights-made up the brontes daily environment, and emily lived among them her entire life. she died in 1848, at the age of thirty.
《飘》的英文读后感篇3
scarlett , a very personality figures ,the two mans she love ,neither does she know about.to her, i was compelled to admire, admire her strong and brave, admire her to lay down in the environment, farm workers previously suffered education, admire her to disregard the community to create their own expression of the cause .she is in the whole story, all a person full of fighting will full of vitality . i appreciated most , it is this " tomorrow is another day of hers. " . promising forever, full of fighting will , will never give up, never desperate. i think im moved her.so, whenever i meet difficulty, the mood is not good, i will tell oneself : " tomorrow is another day. " gone with the wind is absolutely a good book that is worth sampling repeatedly, the characters are graceful , the plot rises and falls, exciting boldly and unconstrainedly, though the subjective factor because of the author among them , the appraisal on u.s.a.s civil war is not objective and overall, but as to angle of literature, this one fine piece of writing generation definitely absolutely, worth visiting.
《飘》的英文读后感篇4
reading report ——the little prince i’m reading a book called the little prince written by exupery,s. he was born in lyon in 1900. he was a pilot during his early life. unfortunately,he was died at the age of 44 in 1944 when he was carrying out the eighth flying mission. and the little prince was his most famous novel.
this novel tells the story of the little prince, who came from the asteroid known as b-612.the narrator met the little prince when he crashed in the desert. little by little, he learned more about the prince from words dropped by chance. the planet was so small that nobody could go very far. as is seen to all, he owned a flower and three volcanoes. apparently, he was very earnest, honest and stubborn. every time he put forward a question, you can’t ignore it and must answer it instantly to satisfy his curiosity. don’t want to walk through these questions seemed boring and meaningless. because they were more important than how much your salary is. meanwhile, we cannot overlook another character——the flower loved by the little prince. it seems ridiculous that he fell in love with a flower, but their true love is moving in fact. at first, he was attracted by her charming appearance. however, she begun very quickly totorment him with her vanity. gradually, he had soon come to doubt her. finally, they broke up, which had taken him to the earth. but he still could not forget his lover all the time.
the most memorable matter is that people could not understand the narrator’s first drawing until he drew out every detail. it was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of swallowing an animal. to his disappointment, they thought it was a hat. and after several times of modification, these grown-ups made out his idea in the end. but the little prince could understand this picture at the beginning. in a conclusion, i think it is because grown-ups are short of imagination and their thoughts are complicated. their hearts are not pure any more. this impressed me a lot is when you praise a beautiful house, these grown-ups cannot imagine how wonderful it is unless you tell them the house costs $20,000. there’s no denying that it is a very sad truth, however, also a common phenomenon. the reason is so clear that everybody knows it. what can it be except for their money worship? although they might know it is bad, they never want to change the actuality because the temptation seems impossible to resist. as a result, they become complicated and only care about money. they used to be pure, but the realistic world has changed them greatly. of course, we cannot
shift the responsibility onto them, because that’s it all the time. we must make up our mind to change the current situation thoroughly. do not just pay attention to money is very important, and also hard to carry out.
i think this book is written for adults instead of children. on account of the deep meanings between the lines, innocent children maybe cannot undersand it very well. so the author asked the indulgence of the children who may read this book for dedicating it to a grown-up. in my opinion, this book is good for those grown-ups who have lost their childishness. i hope they can find themselves by reading this novel.
in a word, this book is worth reading.
《飘》的英文读后感篇5
these days , i am busy preparing my dissertation which is about web usage mining . i read some english papers and learnt much from them . and now , i want to say something about a paper titled “web usage mining :discovery and applications of usage patterns from web data”.
this is the first english paper i read about dissertation and gave me great help .
this paper is a review about web usage mining. it introduced web usage mining in detail . although it is a little old for it was published in 2000 , its contents are very useful today . it is organized according to the sequence of web usage mining and the six main parts are introduction which tells me what is web usage mining , the sources and abstraction of web data , the three steps of web usage mining , taxonomy and project survey , websift overview , privacy issues . the third and fourth parts are most important . it had a list of existing project about web usage mining which i saw many times in other papers , but this paper is the one creating this list . besides , it has been referred for more then twenty times . as we all know that , the higher the referred number is , the more important the paper is , so i consider this paper to be an important and successful one in this region.
in my opinion , the success of this paper dues to three reasons . the first reason is the profound computer knowledge owned by the authors . web usage mining relates to many subjects , such as artificial intelligence , ontology , semantic analysis , but the most basic knowledge is computer science . the four authors are all professors of department of computer science and engineering in university of minnesota . for myself , i am not major in computer science and i am not very good at computers , so i feel a little difficult to understand technologies used in this region.
second , they had read a large number of papers before they wrote this paper . there are fifty nine references listed after main contents . “stand on the shoulders of giants” , this sentence tell us a truth : one can never successful all by oneself . and what’s more , learn from others can save a lot of time and energy , especially for us new learner . how to learn from others is a skill all of us should master , but learning doesn’t mean copy or plagiary . other people’s knowledge and production is just our foundation , upon this foundation , we must have our own thoughts and creation. there are many remarks in this paper where referred other’s production.
third , the authors had the experience of developing a web usage mining project . they don’t just engage in idle theorizing , so their comprehension on this issue is greatly profound. they know what we may meet in a real project development and they know how to resolve them . after reading this paper , i also read some other papers written in chinese . some of them are not based on real project and can not give useful resolution . websift is the name of system they developed which can be used to data mining and analysis .
i wrote this article not only because it gave me much help in preparing my dissertation , but also because it tells me how to study and how to do research . honesty and preciseness are two essential making a researcher must have . hard-working is the necessary condition leading to success . this is just the beginning of my dissertation , i should learn from these four authors , both their knowledge and their attitude to study.
